happy Monday
I'm so excited for thanksgiving. I love turkey so much woohoo. I had to put stuff in storage this weekend and I was too lazy to make two trips so I brought the christmas tree out and put it up but I think I"ll wait until thnaksgiving to dig out the lights and the rest of the decorations.

blah: Just catching up
I've been sick almost every other week since I submited my comp paper. I don't know who they are but apparently the people I am around are very germy and I'm catching everything. I'm doing the multi-vitamin, extra vitamin C thing, cranberry juice (more vitamin C) and all kinds of random preventative and post cold gimmics. So I'm on my second week of just dragging. I haven't been sick enough this time to get out of any responsibilities but it's slowing me down and with the end of semester crunch I'm pretty tired and feeling very busy.
But that said there's less than a month left of the semester woohoo.
Daniel Tiger stuff is up and running. Check out his new myspace [here].
Daniel and I are hiding eachother's christmas presents at our respective offices (I am very untrustworthy...I'd find my present and I'd probably give daniel his early if they were around).
Well that's a little post...I'll try and take a good snow picture soon

Another List.
1. I passed FINALLY. Woohoo. yes my comp paper has finally passed so I've been trying to make up all the work and grading that I put off trying to get that thing done.
2. we went to Rocky POinte haunted house with some philosophy program. People say it's number 1 in the nation I"m not sure according to who though, but it was lots of fun. It's the last year apparently they have the history of the haunted house and they had a sign that says "tell your grandchildren about us". Yeah it was fun I like the dot rooms the best where the guy comes from "no where". But Ian was was the most fun, he was creeping through all hunched over and he'd flip out every other second, it was really fun to watch him get scared.
3. It's getting cold
4. I really like that Ugly Betty show
5. Daniel's job is stressful.
6. I've got more work than I can handle and I think I promised my advisor more than I can do.
7. The molten chocolate bunt at Barnes and Noble is yummy but it has a weird after taste.

Warning: Do not work with any company called "Client Services"
So we've been receiving these really quick abrupt phone messages everyday that say "Paula (althought the paula was really jumbled so I never knew what it said) Cohen this is Mr. White you need to call me back" and then he left his number. I ignored it but then it happend for two weeks I deleted 10 messages. So I called the number and told them it was the wrong number and they needed to take the number off the list I told him the only names I heard they are looking for are "cohen" and "white" and the receptionist said she'd take care of it. But then today they called back and I told them it was the wrong number and I asked to speak to the supervisor because not only did I want to make sure the number was off the list but I wanted to tell her that his messages were obnoxious and unclear and even if he were looking for me I'd be really ticked. But she REFUSED to say sorry. She said he has lots of numbers to call and I all had to do was answer the phone (when I wasn't at home?) and tell them. And I said that was impossible and I called blah blah blah. And she was so rude and couldn't admit that they did something annoying. He wasn't looking for anyone named "marissa" or "daniel". But anyways I believe that whole company is corrupt and they wouldnt tell me what they do but if you ever have the option of working with a "client services" don't do it they can't say sorry or admit they are ever in the wrong.

Here's a list of the happenings and my feelings lately.
1. turned in my comp paper (I like it but I've heard no response yet).
2. Got a wisdom tooth out last night was the first night without pain killers, it's so weird how they drug you and then there's this huge gap in your memory...I know it's like that with sleep but I'm pretty sure of what's going on when I go to sleep. But this was really really weird to me, gas, and IV and then I'm waking up in a different room, just too weird.
3. Got really sick, cancelled class, I've never done that before. It's amazing how vics works.
4. Tired of worrying about other people. Almost makes me want to just not care about anyone or become totally self involved, but something feels wrong about that.
5. Tired of all the crap in the news. Just a note...if you're an alcoholic, it doesn't excuse sending inappropriate notes to minors, oh yeah and why do people who just look at child porn get real jail time but teachers who take advantage of their status and actually have sex with kids (yes Junior high and high school kids are still kids, if you don't believe me try having a conversation with them) are comfy at home (not that I think looking at kid porn is okay I just don't understand the disconnect).
6. Gas prices in Utah are starting to go down since the news reported that we were 40cents over the national average. Remember when the gallon and dollar bars would race because gas was around a dollar? Yeah.
7. Grey's anatomy started -yippeee!!
8. the dreaded baseball tv takeover have arrived. I hate the world seriers, every year it comes and postspones all of my tv shows.

I guess that's enough ranting for now... oh I think I will be a Boobah (actually a sexy -since that's what's cool now a days- Boobah) for halloween.

Harvard protests

Sometimes it feels like academia is so disconnected from the real world. It's cute that Harvard decided to invite a major bad guy to speak on tolerance ha. [Here's] the background story about how the governor decided that taxpayer's money shouldn't be used to cart the guy around. [Here's] someone's blog with pictures of the protest.

Maybe a deep theological message.

Earlier in the summer someone changed the marquee at church. I thought it was funny. As if one of the critics of the early church had something to say about the communion practices but not quite...yes i'm just bored and waiting for it to be 10pm so I can go to the pie for a slice of meatball pizza.

lets just talk about the weather
we filmed this on August 12. The weather has been psychotic. Mostly hot hot heat with bursts of hail.
I think I wasted almost an entire year of work on a paper that the Graduate Committee will not pass. I've very frustrated. I was working on something else but I was advised that this paper I've been slaving over would be much easier and quicker. I wish that I had ignored the advice and the pressure (since I later found out that I was ahead of schedule). yup very frustrated. I only have 2 years of funding left, I need to be working on my dissertation not jumping hoops. By the way I think the paper is pretty good.

life...
I've been a big slacker with blogging but I"ll try to put something up later. I've been busy trying to finish up the summer school classes with endless grading and get things in order for the fall semester class. Daniel and I have both been taking advatage of the insurance with visits to the doctor and the dentist.
Lots of craziness has been going on in Utah. Pretty depressing, apparently we think it's okay to abduct and kill kids. There's just been endless reports of kids being killed by adults. Too depressing.
We watched little miss sunshine and while it is definately an R movie we liked it a lot. It was pretty funny with it's own bizarre creativity and social commentary. Many fun parts but thare was lots of "adult" language if that bugs you.
And a good thing. Ava is now out of Jana's tummy. And from the picture on mark's page she's kinda cute, not the normal super smooshy. Woohoo. I've been so excited to find out what her name would be and what she would look like. COngrats to Shaun and Jana!
Sorry that was so jumpy, that's just how my brain is right now, I guess I won't be getting much done today, oh well.

Video: from last weeks show at Urban
It's time for a little dance. Tonight's show is in Ogden at "Brewski's" should be fun. I bought a salad spinner and I have to say it's an amazing invention. It's SO cool. That is all.
I put some other videos up too at our youtube page. You can get there by clicking "home videos" on the right.

Yesterday, birthday and movie
So yesterday was daniel's birthday. He took off and so he's working "4/ 10's" this week. We went shopping and we went to dinner with his parents and we went to a movie (what else do we do besides shop, eat and watch movies?).
We watched Lady in the water with the Mark and the TOnie and I have to say I LOVED it. Daniel thought it was enjoyable and fun but not his favorite of M. Night Shyamalan's movies. It's kind of different than Shyamalan's other flicks. I think it's fun in the same way that superhero movies are fun. And it reminded me (feeling-wise) of Kungfu Hustle -but I"m not sure the other three guys really saw that when I mentioned it last night so maybe thats just a strange connection. But I thought it was good fun.

Just Painful...be warned if you haven't been tormented yet

I (and daniel) just don't get the hype. I understand that many of you probably loved it but I'll take that as evidence that there is something off in your heads or you suffer from severe peer pressure. I don't relate to the humor okay maybe a line or two were funny, but it was so boring and it was just gross and the bad guys' look was so unbelievable . Yeah i was totally not pulled into the story and the scenes lasted way to long, how long do you need the fools rolling and fighting on a wheel.
We've seen many many movies lately... Nacho Libre, Superman, MI3 (is that the number), now this one. There are others but I cant remember which ones now. Go see nacho its definately worth it. After seeing pirates daniel and I were both sad that it got such hype and good reviews but Nacho (a really good movie) isn't doing so well. End of rant.

Pics: Fourth of July
Fourth of July was jammed pack. After a lazy morning we went for a round of mini golf with Tonie, Mark, and Elektra. After that was a rained in BBQ at Tonie's relatives -yummy. Then to Sugarhouse park where the fireworks to so long to start we weren't sure if some of the ones in the distance were the ones we were looking for and if it was just really pathetic this year. We used Elektra as a peg and tossed her glow rings onto her. Lots of fun.

this is a film from a couple weeks ago. we like the burgers at the bowling alley. the guy who makes them is chinese and really doesn't speak english, he charges 25 cents for ranch but the burgers are yummy and this time they were kinda funny
I'm gonna try and put more up on youtube.com I coded the videos with MarissaandDaniel so if you search those ours should pop up.

blah: stalling...
I have ALOT to do, my head is all over the place so what do I do? post a picture. Here's a picture from the honeymoon. Before we left the port on the cruise they made us all put on life vests and go to the life boats that we are assigned to. We were on number 12...yup. Well that didn't take up much time... okay I'll try to work again. I'll try to stick one or two of our favorite wedding pictures up sometime soon.

A mini rant because that is all I can take
You know when you plan to go to a real movie (i.e. not a dollar movie) and you save your money and you show up early to get in line and you wait for over an hour in line to get in the theatre and then 5 minutes before the show the workers just go and lift the velvet hangy thing and let people into the theatre who just barely showed up? I feel like this immigration amnesty stuff is like that; majorly cutting in line in front of people who have been putting the work and time into doing it legitly.
Any ways daniel and I decided yesterday that being informed is sometimes just not worth it. It just makes you frustrated without any opportunity of chaning anything.

email
Today I received this reply to a mass email and I thought it was too funny not to share. Welcome to the world of philosophers.
For those of you who wish you were southern, when you write "ya'll", you probably mean y'all. 'Y'all' is how you abbreviate you all, not 'ya'll'. In the south we say that if you can't spell 'y'all' correctly or are uncomfortable about how the word looks, then you have no business trying to
appropriate it. Interesting that southerners haven't then applied this to our own butchering of English.
This is mostly tounge in cheek so don't be too offended.
